You can find a climate zone on the Big Island
to grow almost anything. Major edible crops are macadamia nuts, coffee, papaya, pineapple, banana, guava, passionfruit, rambutan, lychee,
longan, chocolate, citrus, coconut,mangosteen, durian, jakfruit, breadfruit, vanilla, noni, kava, bamboo,tea. Ornamental crops: orchids, palms, gingers,
heliconia, anthurium, ti, dracaena. There are many new fruit and ornamental crops that are being grown on small farms and nurseries.
Districts of Puna, South Hilo, North Hilo and Hamakua are suitable for a wide variety of tropical fruit and ornamental crops. Kona at elevations
of 1000 ft. or more are known for high quality coffee production; Puna grown coffee is reported to be even better. Some areas of the Ka'u
are known for citrus and macadamia nuts. Temperature and rainfall depend on elevation and the side of the island; east side is wet and
west side is hotter and drier.
